News

Well.....I had been suspicious for a couple of weeks, but finally decided to take a pregnancy test on Tuewday, March 4. It was positive!!!!!!!!!!

Whoa!!

I had a leftover pg test and took it about 10 minutes before I needed to leave for aerobics that night. Benjamin was there and could not get him to leave me alone in the bathroom. I didn't want to go through the questions "what is that?", why are you peeing on that?", etc. So, I told him to go grab something in the kitchen and then locked the door. He came back and started banging on the door and screaming for me to let him in, but not before I'd had a chance to pee on the stick. A plus sign came up immediately and I was pretty shocked.

I went to aerobics and Misty Meadows was there. I had an urge to tell someone, so I blurted it to her something like "Hey Misty, I just took a pregnancy test and it was positive. Don't tell anyone."

I waited up until midnight when Chris came home from work that night. I was a little worried about his reaction. Not that I thought he would be extremely upset or anything, but I wasn't sure what level of shock would accompany the news. I offered him a glass of wine and then we sat down on the couch while his nightly popcorn started to pop on the stove. He asked me why I was still up (I'm usually out by the time he gets home) and I told him I had to tell him something. He looked at me funny and said "it is good or bad?" I said it depends on how you look at it, but that it really was good. I pulled out the test result from my pocket and showed it to him. I think the breath went out of him for a second and he said something like "oh Jesus". Then, "aren't you on the pill?", then something about how he will need to get family healthcare coverage (now it is just him plus Benjamin with me on my own city policy), then how Benjamin would have a big adjustment since he is currently the center the Irvin Lane universe. And then after a minute he said, "okay, this will be cool". I was proud of him because I really wasn't sure how he would react - if his previous reluctance to commit to the idea of another baby was because he REALLY didn't want one or that he just liked the status quo and was reluctant to change things. He, of course, said something about him being "42 years old".....

More later.

Yesterday Benjamin and I went to Drew's 3rd birthday party at Brooke's. They rented a big blow-up castle with a slide for the kids to play on. Luckily, the weather was perfect for playing outside. Traci brought Benjamin's spiderman costume that he left at their house a few weeks ago and when I showed it to him, he immediately wanted to put it on. So, we stripped him down and he became spiderman. Before this, I noticed that he was acting a little shy about playing with the other kids since he didn't know all of them. Once he became spiderman, though, he became noticibly more confident and excited to play. I thought this was so funny. He is so proud when he wears one of his costumes (also has batman, which he wears everyday!).

After cake and ice cream, the kids headed back outside to play. Benjamin came back in after a few minutes and looked funny. He started a little cough, I asked if he was okay, and then luckily I put my plate up to his mouth in time for him to throw up in it. Then someone yelled for a garbage can, which Brad quickly supplied. After projectile vomiting into the garbage can, he went to the bathroom and said he felt fine and was ready to play again.

Chris, Benjamin, and I went out for sushi in Cleveland last night and Benjamin went in his batman costume. It is funny to see people's reactions when they see him dressed like that. I guess I'm biased, but it is soooo cute!

First Post

I've decided to start this blog as a way to document things going on in our lives these days. I've attempted to keep a journal a few times since Benjamin was born, but I never stick with it. Maybe doing this online will help.
