Well.....I had been suspicious for a couple of weeks, but finally decided to take a pregnancy test on Tuewday, March 4. It was positive!!!!!!!!!!
Whoa!!
I had a leftover pg test and took it about 10 minutes before I needed to leave for aerobics that night. Benjamin was there and could not get him to leave me alone in the bathroom. I didn't want to go through the questions "what is that?", why are you peeing on that?", etc. So, I told him to go grab something in the kitchen and then locked the door. He came back and started banging on the door and screaming for me to let him in, but not before I'd had a chance to pee on the stick. A plus sign came up immediately and I was pretty shocked.
I went to aerobics and Misty Meadows was there. I had an urge to tell someone, so I blurted it to her something like "Hey Misty, I just took a pregnancy test and it was positive. Don't tell anyone."
I waited up until midnight when Chris came home from work that night. I was a little worried about his reaction. Not that I thought he would be extremely upset or anything, but I wasn't sure what level of shock would accompany the news. I offered him a glass of wine and then we sat down on the couch while his nightly popcorn started to pop on the stove. He asked me why I was still up (I'm usually out by the time he gets home) and I told him I had to tell him something. He looked at me funny and said "it is good or bad?" I said it depends on how you look at it, but that it really was good. I pulled out the test result from my pocket and showed it to him. I think the breath went out of him for a second and he said something like "oh Jesus". Then, "aren't you on the pill?", then something about how he will need to get family healthcare coverage (now it is just him plus Benjamin with me on my own city policy), then how Benjamin would have a big adjustment since he is currently the center the Irvin Lane universe. And then after a minute he said, "okay, this will be cool". I was proud of him because I really wasn't sure how he would react - if his previous reluctance to commit to the idea of another baby was because he REALLY didn't want one or that he just liked the status quo and was reluctant to change things. He, of course, said something about him being "42 years old".....
More later.
